　　在一个阳光明媚的日子里，马克（伊恩·格林 Iain Glen 饰）携妻子玛丽亚（莉娜·奥琳 Lena Olin 饰）、女儿瑞姬（安娜·帕奎因 Anna Paquin 饰）及幼子保罗（Stephan Enquist 饰） 举家搬到一幢林间别墅居住。除却瑞姬，一家人均沉浸在喜悦之中。然而好景不长，不祥的气息渐渐笼罩在这栋房子的上空。先是马克旧病复发，险象迭生，随后保罗也日渐忧郁，仿佛被什么吓倒一样，所绘的图画也多为血腥内容。父子俩的精神与举止越来越诡异，似乎老房子内隐藏着什么东西持续影响着他们。事态愈演愈烈，恐怖阴森的事件接连发生，瑞姬将和家人们经历永生难忘的一段黑暗时光……
