　　　　富饶的江州小城，巷尾一家不起眼的客栈，名唤“南柯梦”。老板娘阿珂不知来处，不明身份，外表高傲美丽、性格却异常古怪，喜怒哀乐捉摸不定，当着客人发脾气更是常有之事。但尽管如此，客栈的生意却依然红火，排队下榻的人络绎不绝，因为大家惊奇地发现，只要在这里入睡，醒来后萦绕在自己心头的烦恼之事便会奇迹般地烟消云散，从此高枕无忧。《后汉书仪志》载:“雄伯食魅，腾简食不祥，揽诸食咎，伯奇食梦。”伯奇族得天授神力，不老不灭，驻守一方，承担着替入住之人消除烦恼的责任，以食用噩梦为生。而“南柯梦”的老板娘阿珂，正是其后裔。相比兢兢业业履行义务的其他族人，起初阿珂对这份工作充满抱怨，她无法理解，凭什么伯奇族想要活下去，就得吃掉那些稀奇古怪又阴暗晦涩的噩梦。但随着时光流转，年岁更迭，阿珂见过了很多人，有天生聋哑的垂髫小童，有久病缠身的垂暮老人，有爱而不得的绝望女子，也有征战沙场的铁血将军……他们无一例外，都会在“南柯梦”里伤心落泪，留下关于这三千红尘的烦恼。阿珂在这些人的梦境里观察世间的五味杂陈，也逐渐学到许多从前不懂的东西……
