先说说导演的取景，此片往往选择有强烈“缝隙”感的背景，这种背景带给人一种茫然和失落，比如在弟弟和邻家小女孩发火后，又去天台道歉，那天台的取景就很妙，还有片尾的长镜头，也是影片取景最妙之处，那是一种说不出来的寂寞，可见导演的审美已经到了很高的境界。
再说说背景音乐，此片的背景音乐由GRP唱片公司的老板Dave Grusin操刀，钢琴的SOLO和“冷爵士”，空洞的SAX，还有，引用了两首JAZZ名曲。Dave Grusin给电影配乐的功底自然是没话说，老本行了吗，但是在他的职业生涯中，“愚蠢的贝克兄弟”也是他最光辉的一笔。
本片的艺术价值要远远高于它的商业价值，超级影迷不会不知道这部电影的，此片获得1989年度影评人最佳女主角，最佳音乐等多项大奖，是不可多得的文艺片佳作。
