　　影片采用追忆倒叙的方式，玛拉在晚年时向他的学生们讲述起他与师傅科隆伯之间的恩怨情仇。玛拉还是科隆伯的女婿，可惜在玛拉入宫后抛弃糟糠另结新欢，导致妻子自尽。玛拉一角由德帕迪约父子扮演。影片节奏缓慢，台词不多，却有非常浓厚的传奇片色彩，对艺术的痴迷和情感交缠的复杂心理都有出色的描绘，影像和音乐非常出众，画面模拟古典绘画。本片荣获1992年法国凯撒奖最佳摄影、最佳服装设计、最佳电影原声、最佳音效、最佳导演、最佳女配角（Anne Brochet）和最佳影片等七项大奖，并在法国成为热门影片。

3. It‘s late 17th century. The viola da gamba player Monsieur de Sainte Colombe comes home to find that his wife died while he was away. In his grief he builds a small house in his garden into which he moves to dedicate his life to music and his two young daughters Madeleine and Toinette, avoiding the outside world. Rumor about him and his music is widespread, and even reaches to the court of Louis XIV, who wants him at his court in Lully‘s orchestra, but Monsieur de Sainte Colombe refuses. One day a young man, Marin Marais, comes to see him with a request, he wants to be taught how to play the viola.
